  3. I've seen a lot of people on alt.video.dvd.software asking how to
  4. remove the region counter from various software decoder.
  5. This program attempts to do this.

  11. Also, if you have DVDs you're tired of i would gladly accept them
  12. (especially if they are from different regions, as i would like to test
  13. that all regions work correctly), feel free to contact me (if you are
  14. interested in sending them in).

  16. * Why isn't DVD Express supported by DVD Region Selector?

  18. DVD Express is region coded, i believe it uses a file
  19. called "allnode.dll" in cooperation with the windows 98
  20. and it's own registry setting to enforce one region.
  21.  
  22. You may be able to bypass this manually by grabbing
  23. "allnode.dll" and "allnode.reg" from the various
  24. region installation packages, and manually change
  25. the regions.  However, i have yet to verify this (don't
  26. have a region 1 installation).

  28. A note, when the Xing DVD v2.xx player is installed,
  29. it somehow breaks the DVD Express authentication code
  30. so that the Xing code overrides it.  This is useful
  31. as it allows you to use DVD Express under any region
  32. as long as the Xing region is set accordingly.

  36. Like DVD Express, SoftDVD is coded internally for
  37. a specific region.  Not only that, it wouldn't even
  38. work on my system (probably some windows 98 incompatibility).
